What SMI has to offer you:

The SMI commenced operations as a knowledge sharing and networking organisation. Over time we have expanded our service to include strategy profiling, coaching, educating and consulting and more recently, accreditation. Conducted either internally with client organisations or externally as open seminars and events the Strategic Management Institute (SMI) programs are illustrated below:

Strategy is about the resolution of 'wicked' strategic problems. Apart from the fundamental purpose of providing a direction for the future, it facilitates the resolution of issues of leading, structuring, learning, renewal.

Certified Strategy Practitioner Accreditation (CSP)

The Strategic Management Institute’s (SMI) Certified Strategy Practitioner’s (CSP) program is designed to contribute to the growth of the professional integrity of strategy practitioners. Participation delivers benefits to individuals and employers, through:

  • learning programs that are grounded in research, practical in application and compiled at the highest standard  (Master’s degree level)
  • a networking medium facilitating open communication between participants, enabled through online forums and where practicable, formal events, seminars and conferences
  • access to a ‘one stop’ source of support and knowledge at the highest level; addressing strategy, strategic leadership, and strategic management practices in general (Supply Chain, Performance etc.)
  • a professional body that will promote standards and oversee the professional development of strategy practitioners: professional development hours; skills development and renewal, 
  • a medium through which individuals can contribute to the knowledge of the strategy profession – from a global perspective,
  • a professional and career development networking facility enabling interaction between individuals and employees/corporations
  • an advocacy role that will work with the international business, academic and consulting community and other (related) professional organisations and industry bodies to promote the need for the application of the highest level of professional standards as possible

Events

Short Courses (non accreditation) half day to five day intensive seminars and facilitated ‘strategising’ courses and events: exploration, update or revision and formalisation of strategy concepts and practice . Tailored to three levels of: emerging high potentials; incumbent and emerging General Managers ,and; experienced senior executives. Providing  core component of Leadership Development programs.

Customised Programs: Design of customised education courses ensuring approach and content is in full accord with the organisation’s culture, tailored to our client’s specific needs:

•  Zero based: Completely new program, tailored specifically to client organisations.
•  Consultative: Adaptation of an existing program to client organisation’s specific needs
•  Inclusion in external programs: In many cases, individuals will benefit from participation in external programs where they are able to learn from experiences and alternative opinions of individuals and peers from other organisations.

Five Day Intensive Senior Management Executive Development program: constructed in modules and up of a combination of Course 1:  Perspectives of Strategy and Course 2: Strategy-as-Practice; this program is conducted in varying combinations of  5.5 days workshop and coursework  activities. The combined program is designed for senior managers participation and provides an understanding of strategy concepts and ways in which strategy is applied in practice – in one program. Participants will leave the course with an understanding of the optimal way of applying strategy: and an ability to start implementation of their learning in their own organisation immediately. 

The Strategic Director Short Course: Conducting an Audit of the Corporate Strategy: In recognition of the role of the Director in the strategic direction of  the corporation, the SMI has developed a short course that will provide Directors with an appreciation of the value of the fully integrated Strategic Management Framework and ways it can be used to evaluate the robustness of strategy; from  vision, mission and values through to execution and implementation. In this course we use our comprehensive Strategic Management Framework to provide participants with insight into all aspects of strategy; arming them with an understanding of strategy structure, strategy systems and processes and aspects of strategic governance. Attendees will obtain an  appreciation of the value of Board Level strategy submissions and an understanding of areas where: any ‘gaps’ may exist; content is deficient and/or areas where further rigour could be required.

Networking and informal seminars, workshop and problem solving facilitation and events: We hold regular Breakfast Briefings designed as networking and information dissemination events. These events contribute to Professional Development hours as part of the CSP’s ongoing accreditation program. Public (open) seminars can also be recognised as accreditation hours from Course 2; Strategy as Practice coursework which allows members to advance through steps of the accreditation process, but through a less structured program.

Profiling; Enhancing Strategic Leadership

Conducted in alliance with our European alliance partner, the Strategy Profiler is an innovative web-based assessment tool that provides insight into executive thinking. Application of the tool is the measurement of preferred leadership and strategy styles, identification of personal growth objectives and recognition of areas for team development. The Strategy Profile database contains thousands of executive responses across corporate levels, industries and countries. Our services include:

  • Leadership assessment: evaluating a strategic fit between corporate positions and candidates
  • Personal profiling: strategy & leadership styles: reporting preferences and growth areas
  • Group profiling: measuring team compositions on strategy & leadership styles
  • Company Profiling: heat mapping of strategy issues by identifying corporate tensions

Executive Education in Strategy

We provide coaching services to executives and teams. Our specialists have obtained experience in senior management roles and are accredited through our Certified Strategy Practitioner program. Our services include:
