Micro White Paper: Raising the bar in strategic thinking: When adaptation is only half the story
As living, dynamic, complex systems businesses naturally possesses a capacity to adapt to change, but unlike a natural ecosystem it also has the capacity to invent change. Most organisations I have observed though are more than content to limit their capacity for change to that of adaptation alone, in the form of a response that is either reactive or proactive in nature. In this paper I explore the notion that dynamically oriented organisations could better position themselves to compete for the future by actively orchestrating opportunities to provoke prosponsive change. What is sponsive change? smiknowledge has defined the word sponse as “a change in a living organism’s trajectory that occurs as a result of a disruption to its internal and/or external environment, it can be either re or prosponsive in nature”. The concept, format, structure and consequences are discussed here in more detail.
